Gilbert, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), and Rivulon, broke ground Monday on the new traffic interchange at Lindsay Road and the State Route (SR) 202 Santan Freeway. This new interchange, scheduled to be completed in early 2022, will provide additional access for drivers and ease congestion to Gilbert’s Central Business District, residential areas, and the surrounding transportation system.
ADOT will be facilitating the construction of the traffic interchange which is estimated to cost $22 million with funding coming from the Town, ADOT, MAG, and FHWA. In addition to the new on-ramps and off-ramps at Lindsay Road, infrastructure enhancements have been made along Lindsay Road from Pecos to Germann Roads in anticipation of the new interchange and a westbound frontage road between Lindsay and Gilbert Roads will be added to provide additional access to the Rivulon development.
“This is an important investment in Gilbert’s transportation network and I am grateful for all of the partners who have played a role in making this new traffic interchange a reality,” said Gilbert Mayor Scott Anderson. “As Gilbert continues to grow, this new interchange will provide much-needed relief and flexibility for our traffic system, making it easier to access Gilbert’s Central Business District and nearby residential areas.”
Gilbert also worked with ADOT to install additional pavement to accommodate a future widening of SR 202 to avoid ramp closures during the widening construction.
During construction, intermittent traffic impacts are anticipated in the area. Nearby Zanjero Park will remain open; however, as part of this project, the parking lot will be relocated to the south side of the park.
